Standard speed limits in Azerbaijan including the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic (unless otherwise indicated on road signs)
Cars (up to 3.5 t)
• city centre – 60 km / h
• outside the settlement – 90 km / h
• on the road with two lanes in one direction – 90 km / h
• on the motorway – 110 km / h
• in residential areas – no more than 20 km / h.
Fines for crossing speed limit in Azerbaijan including the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic:
• Speeding up from 10 to 20 km / h (amount of fine 10 AZN)
• Speeding up from 21 to 40 km / h (the amount of fine is 50 AZN)
• Speeding up from 41 to 60 km / h (the amount of fine is 200 AZN)
• Speeding up over 60 km / h (amount of fine 300 AZN)
Other common fines of Azerbaijan including the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic:
• Wrong parking. (amount of fine 20 AZN)
• Movement in the opposite direction. (amount of fine 150 AZN)
• Do not pass a pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing. (the sum of the penalty is 50 AZN)
• Violation of traffic rules at the intersection. (amount of fine 80 AZN)
• Movement at a prohibitive signal of the traffic light or the traffic controller. (amount of fine 80 AZN)
• Violation of the rules of overtaking, maneuvering. (amount of fine 40-80 AZN)
• The driver left the scene of a traffic accident. (amount of fine 80 AZN)
• Transportation of children up to 12 years in the front seat in the absence of a special device that supports the child. (amount of fine 60 AZN)
• Riding without wearing a seat belt. (amount of penalty 40 AZN)
• Talking on the phone at the wheel. (the sum of the penalty is 50 AZN)
• The use of anti-radar and other technical devices that impede the measurement of speed results in a fine of 80 to 100 AZN and confiscation of the device.
Penalty for driving while intoxicated:
If the level of alcohol in the blood is 0.3 or higher, then a fine of AZN 400 will be imposed or the right to control the vehicle will be restricted for a period of 6 to 12 months.
• If in case of violation a slight bodily injury or material damage was inflicted, the amount of the fine will increase to 700 AZN, and the restriction of the right to control the vehicle for up to 2 years.
• Evasion by the person controlling the vehicle from examining the state of intoxication conducted in accordance with the procedure established by law is punishable by a fine of AZN 400 to 700 AZN and restriction of the right to drive a vehicle for up to 2 years.
