Right and safe driving in the fog
What to do when driving in poor visibility
✅ Check lights
Check the operation of the taillights, and also turn on the side lights and the dipped headlights.
✅ Fog lights
Fog lights should be included only with dense fog. How to understand what time it is to turn on foglights? If from a short distance the visibility of the rear of the cars in front is small, we recommend that you turn on the foglights.⠀
✅ Ventilation processes
Turning on the windshield and interior heating will help to reduce moisture in the car interior, thereby improving the visibility of the road.⠀
✅ Keep your distance
With fog, visibility is worse, respectively, the distance must be increased at least 2 times. We also recommend that you reduce the speed as much as possible (preferably 2 times). If your speed does not exceed 40 km / h, then 1 car should fit between you and the car in front (60 km / h, the distance should be doubled). These rules are written in the traffic rules and non-compliance may lead to administrative liability.
⠀
✅ Slow down
Driving in fog is very different from driving in normal visibility. We recommend you slow down or park on the side of the road and wait for the fog to dissipate.
What can not be done in the fog
⛔ Turn on high beam lights.
The inclusion of high beam headlights can lead to sad consequences because instead of a positive effect, visibility will become worse. In the fog, light is reflected back into the interior of the car.
⛔ Loud music and closed windows
If the visibility is poor, you need to reduce the volume of the music, and it is better to completely turn off the playback. Trust your ears and open windows when approaching intersections. This will help you determine the approximate location of the car, and avoid accidents.
‼️ Under fog, the picture of the real world is distorted, due to which objects can completely disappear from view (heavy trucks), or appear further. We recommend that you reduce the speed by half and pay attention to the lampposts, or to the pillars of road signs, in order to better navigate.
Follow our simple recommendations and you will protect yourself from unpleasant incidents.
