Weekend from Baku to Quba and Shahdag in the new BYD Qin Plus

My name is Marek Kowalski, I am from Warsaw, and I came to Azerbaijan for five days. Two of them I planned to spend in the north of the country: Quba, the mountain villages and the road to Shahdag.

For that route I arranged car rental in Baku and took the new BYD Qin Plus from Karavan Rent A Car in Baku. I wanted something modern and comfortable for the long drive, and the hybrid promised low costs.

The car was delivered to my hotel in the city centre on Friday evening, so I could set off early on Saturday without wasting time on formalities.

The road from Baku to Quba is about one hundred and seventy kilometres of good highway. The car is quiet at speed, the seats do not tire you on a long drive, and the adaptive systems make the motorway section genuinely relaxing.

In Quba I stayed in a small guesthouse and in the morning drove up towards Shahdag. The mountain road is excellent, and the Qin Plus climbs without strain — the electric motor helps exactly where a small petrol engine would struggle.

On the way I stopped at the Afurja waterfall and in the village of Khinalug region viewpoints. Every stop was my own decision, which is the whole point of having a car.

Fuel consumption over the weekend was remarkably low. For roughly four hundred kilometres of driving I spent less than twenty manat, which for a car of this size still seems unbelievable to me.

The company answered my questions about the road conditions quickly and gave practical advice on which section to take slowly after rain.

On Sunday evening I returned the car in Baku. The inspection was polite and quick, and the deposit came back immediately.

For a weekend outside the capital I can recommend car rental in Baku with this model. The new BYD Qin Plus copes easily with the roads to Quba and Shahdag and costs very little to run.
