Baku to Gabala in a Chevrolet Aveo: an inexpensive car for a trip to the mountains
My name is Igor Melnik, I am from Minsk, and my wife and I spent a week in Azerbaijan. We wanted to combine Baku with a few days in the mountains, and Gabala was the obvious choice.
We arranged car rental in Baku at Karavan Rent A Car in Baku and took a Chevrolet Aveo. The main criterion was price: we were saving the budget for the trip itself, not for the car.
The car was handed over at the office in good condition. All the small marks on the bodywork were recorded together with us, the tank was full and the spare wheel was in place.
The road from Baku to Gabala took about four hours. The Aveo holds the highway steadily, and although it is not the quietest car in the world, it is perfectly comfortable for a few hours on the road.
In Gabala we drove to Tufandag, to Nohur Lake and up to the waterfall. The mountain roads there are asphalted, and the car managed the climbs without complaint. On the steeper sections you simply drop a gear.
Fuel for the whole week cost us surprisingly little. Combined with the low daily rate, this turned out to be the cheapest way to see the region.
On the way back we stopped in Shamakhi to see the Juma Mosque and then had lunch in a roadside restaurant in Ismayilli. With your own car you set the schedule.
If you are planning car rental in Baku for a trip to the regions and want to keep costs down, the Chevrolet Aveo is a sensible choice. It gets you everywhere and leaves money for everything else.
