Weekend from Baku to Quba in a Chevrolet Aveo: a budget trip to the north
My name is Jonas Petraitis, I am from Vilnius, and I came to Azerbaijan for five days. Two of them I set aside for the north of the country — Quba and the mountain roads around it.
I decided on car rental in Baku and took a Chevrolet Aveo from Karavan Rent A Car in Baku. For one traveller it is the cheapest reasonable way to get out of the capital.
The car was delivered to my apartment in the centre on Friday evening, which meant I could leave early on Saturday without any formalities.
The road from Baku to Quba is about one hundred and seventy kilometres of good highway. The Aveo is not fast, but it keeps up with the traffic comfortably and uses very little fuel.
In Quba I walked around the old part of town and the craftsmen’s streets, and in the morning drove up into the mountains towards Shahdag. The road is excellent and the views are worth the trip on their own.
A small car is an advantage on the narrow village roads, where anything larger would make turning around awkward.
I stopped at the Afurja waterfall on the way back and reached Baku in the evening without any hurry.
For a cheap weekend outside the capital I can recommend car rental in Baku with this model. The Chevrolet Aveo handles the roads to Quba easily and the whole trip costs very little.
