News: Car Prices Expected to Rise in Azerbaijan in 2026

Electric and Hybrid Car Prices Expected to Rise in Azerbaijan in 2026
Starting January 1, 2026, Azerbaijan will introduce changes in taxation for eco-friendly vehicles. Tax exemptions for electric cars will be extended for one more year, but these vehicles will be subject to value-added tax (VAT) upon import.
Transport expert Eldeniz Jafarli noted that VAT exemptions for hybrid cars are also being canceled:
“If the exemptions are removed, the cost of imported new eco-friendly cars will increase. Already today, some dealerships selling hybrid and electric cars report a 10% price rise. By 2026, prices for imported vehicles of this type are expected to grow by 15–20%.”
This price increase is driven not only by the removal of VAT exemptions but also by logistics, customs duties, and trade margins. As a result, potential buyers of hybrid cars may face limited availability, and prices for used vehicles are also likely to rise gradually.
Many car enthusiasts are currently taking a wait-and-see approach. However, for those who want to experience modern technology and eco-friendly vehicles today, renting hybrids and electric cars is an ideal solution.
