Weekend from Baku to Quba and Shahdag in a Volkswagen Polo
My name is Tamar Beridze, I am from Tbilisi, and I came to Baku for a few days with a friend. We decided to spend the weekend in the north of the country: Quba, the mountain villages and the road up to Shahdag.
We arranged car rental in Baku with Karavan Rent A Car in Baku and took a Volkswagen Polo. For a mountain route we wanted a car that felt secure, and the Polo fitted that perfectly.
The car was delivered to our hotel on Friday evening, clean and fully fuelled, so we could set off at dawn on Saturday.
The road from Baku to Quba is about one hundred and seventy kilometres of good highway. The Polo is stable and quiet at speed, and the drive passed easily.
In Quba we walked around the old town and crossed the river to Krasnaya Sloboda. The next morning we drove up towards Shahdag — the mountain road is excellent and the views are extraordinary.
On the descent the car felt confident and the brakes never gave any reason for concern, which matters a lot on mountain roads.
We stopped at the Afurja waterfall on the way back and reached Baku in the evening. The fuel bill for the whole weekend was small.
For a weekend outside the capital I can recommend car rental in Baku with this model. The Volkswagen Polo is comfortable and safe on the roads to Quba and Shahdag.
