In short. Karavan Rent A Car in Baku is a car rental company in Baku founded on 5 October 2008. Starting with a small fleet, over 18 years it has become one of Azerbaijan’s largest car rental companies. Its core rule has never changed: fair terms, transparent pricing and responsibility for every car.

When we started, the Flame Towers didn’t yet light up the Baku skyline, and locals only saw Formula 1 on television. We handed over the keys to our first cars and explained the terms so clearly that guests never had to ask twice.

Almost everything has changed since then: the city, the market, the cars, the technology. One thing hasn’t — the way we talk to people. This article is about how that approach turned a small company into a partner of the country’s most demanding industrial clients.

Our journey: 18 years at a glance

2008. A name worth standing behind. In our founding year we registered the KARAVAN trademark.

“At the time it seemed like an unnecessary formality for a young market. Today we understand it was the right decision from day one. A brand with state registration is a brand with responsibility.”

— the Karavan team

2008–2015. Schooled by industrial clients. As Azerbaijan’s oil and gas industry boomed, we grew with it, serving companies in the sector and working on major state projects. Such clients don’t forgive mistakes: if a car is late, a whole crew stands idle, and a faulty vehicle on a remote road puts people at risk. That’s when the standards we still live by took shape: on time, in working order and under a transparent contract.

2012–2024. A city of world events. Time and again Baku welcomed guests from around the world, and each wave was a stress test for rental companies: peak demand, closed roads, tight schedules.

Year Event in Baku
2012 Eurovision Song Contest — Karavan took part in transport services for the event
2012 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup
2015 The first European Games
2016 The first Formula 1 Grand Prix and the World Chess Olympiad
2017 Islamic Solidarity Games
2018 World Judo Championships
2019 UEFA Europa League Final and the European Youth Olympic Festival
2021 UEFA Euro 2020 matches
2024 UN Climate Change Conference COP29
Every year Caspian Oil & Gas exhibition at Baku Energy Week

Years of growth. The fleet grew from our first cars to more than 400 vehicles.

Standing up to the grey market. As the market grew, so did those who profit from trust: private individuals renting without a contract or insurance, and clone companies using someone else’s name. Their trick is simple — a low price at booking and hidden charges later. We refused to compete on price at the expense of honesty and began protecting our name by law.

“New clients often tell us the same story: first they went where it was a couple of manats cheaper, then came to us after an unexpected charge or a refused deposit.”

Industry leadership. Karavan took the chair of ACRA, the Azerbaijan car rental association. Its charter binds members to eight criteria of fair practice, and compliance is checked every year for a public White List. How the association separates the responsibility of operators and aggregators is explained in this ACRA article.

2026. A year of openness. The Intellectual Property Agency issued us an updated trademark certificate, valid until 20 November 2035. We organised the fleet into eight classes with nationwide delivery, launched a zero-deposit insurance option, published guides for families, older drivers and women travelling solo, and during September’s Formula 1 warned guests in advance that delivery to the city centre was impossible.

5 October 2026. Eighteen.

On 5 October 2008 a small car rental company opened in Baku. Eighteen years later, Karavan Rent A Car in Baku works with leading oil and gas companies, chairs the industry association and has collected more than 10,000 reviews. Here's how we got here and why people trust us.

Oil and gas: clients who check harder than anyone

Our strongest recommendation isn’t advertising — it’s our client list. We serve the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic, SOCAR, directly, along with its contractors. Our clients include global oilfield services and engineering leaders SLB (Schlumberger), Halliburton and McDermott. For the Tekfen-Azfen alliance — Azfen being a joint venture of SOCAR and Turkey’s Tekfen — we provided transport for works at the Sangachal Terminal, the country’s largest oil and gas terminal.

International companies choose suppliers through strict procedures, and the industry’s safety requirements leave no room for formalities. Here’s what they get:

Client requirement Karavan’s solution
Contract with a legal entity and accounting documents invoices and acts issued to the company, remote signing for foreign firms
Several drivers all listed in one contract and insured
Transport for oil fields and remote roads SUVs and pickups
Moving crews and delegations minivans
No downtime priority access to the fleet and fast car replacement
Occupational health and safety ISO 45001:2018 certificate
Environmental requirements ISO 14001:2015 and environmental fleet accounting
Process quality ISO 9001:2015

All three certificates were issued by the international organisation Bureau Veritas. To our knowledge, no other car rental company in Azerbaijan holds this triple certification.

Karavan Rent A Car in Baku turns 18: 400+ cars, 10,000+ reviews, clients SOCAR, SLB, Halliburton, McDermott, ACRA chair. Our story and gifts for guests.

Honest rental: 7 rules we never break

  1. Contract before keys. We’ll send a sample before you even arrive.
  2. The price is fixed in the voucher. Photos of your documents via WhatsApp, a 20% prepayment — and the amount no longer changes.
  3. Deposit returned at once in cash when you return the car, or to your card within 30 days. It can only be withheld on grounds from a closed list.
  4. We inspect the car, not just wash it. Brakes, suspension, lights, air conditioning and tyres before every rental; scheduled servicing every 5,000 km and new tyres every 50,000 km. The car’s condition is recorded in a report with photos.
  5. We don’t count kilometres. Mileage is unlimited in every class.
  6. Fines without mark-ups. We charge no fee for processing them.
  7. Here after you’ve paid. Support works around the clock, and if a car breaks down through no fault of the guest, we provide a replacement.

What guests say

More than 10,000 reviews on Google, Yandex, TripAdvisor and 2GIS — something that can be neither bought nor faked. Stories from Baku residents mean the most to us: some rent a car while theirs is being repaired, others as a second family car, others for trips to the dacha. They know the market from the inside and still come back. Read more in our news about what reliability means for us.

Car Rental in Baku Since 2008 — Karavan, 18 Years

The fleet: from city economy to Land Cruiser

Eight classes cover any need: economy, mid-size, business, crossovers, SUVs, minivans, pickups and luxury. For the city — Kia Picanto, Kia Rio and Volkswagen Polo; to save on fuel — BYD Qin Plus hybrids; for a big group — Hyundai Staria. Our line-up of ten Toyotas starts with the 2013 Prado and ends with the Land Cruiser 300. And if you’d rather not choose a model, the “Surprise Car S” tariff will do it for you.

We’ll deliver the car to Heydar Aliyev Airport, your hotel, your office or any address, and collect it the same way. We deliver to any city in the country, allow trips to Karabakh with a permit from the yolumuzqarabaga.az portal, and rent to Turkish citizens on a biometric ID card. You can pay by Visa, Mastercard, MIR or in cash manats.

More than car rental

In our Travelers Club we write about what matters to guests, even when it doesn’t sell a car. For example, we checked import and export rules against the State Customs Committee website — that’s how our Baku customs guide came about — and used official sources to answer whether you’ll be let into Azerbaijan after visiting Armenia.

Gifts for our 18th birthday

To celebrate, we’re preparing gifts, discounts and extra bonuses for regular clients. If you’ve rented a car from us before, message our manager on WhatsApp or Telegram at +994-55-455-22-45 — they’ll tell you what’s been prepared especially for you.
